Leaders’ Retreat 2010

Leaders’ Retreat is strategically designed to help NCJW leaders hone their leadership skills, effectively mobilize members, network with colleagues, and obtain the latest news about NCJW’s initiatives. The retreat highlights NCJW’s commitment to organizational and professional development as a means to achieving its mission. The 2010 Leaders’ Retreat will bring together leaders from across the country and take an in-depth look into the most pressing issues affecting local NCJW communities.

NCJW’s 45th National ConventionOur Collective Strength: Powerful Action, Progressive Change
March 3–5, 2011, Fairmont Dallas Hotel, Dallas, TX

Join hundreds of women from around the country for NCJW’s National Convention to speak out and make your mark on the future of NCJW. Turn our combined strength into progressive and impactful change by voting on the resolutions that will set the stage for the next triennium. New NCJW leaders will be elected, and nationally renowned speakers will share their insights on a variety of critical topics. You will also advance your skills to build and deliver our collective voice and take meaningful action on vital issues. You will receive expert tips and information that you can take back to your local section and use immediately to make a difference in membership development, fundraising, leadership, governance development, coalition building, and much more.

Special guests and award recipients:

  • Kathy Miller, the president of the Texas Freedom Network, a nonpartisan, grassroots organization that advances religious freedom and individual liberties in Texas. The organization was instrumental in defeating initiatives for textbook censorship and faith-based deregulation.
  • Terry O’Neil, president of the National Organization of Women (NOW), is a feminist attorney, professor and activist for social justice. O’Neill oversees NOW’s multi-issue agenda, which includes advancing reproductive freedom, promoting diversity and ending racism, stopping violence against women, winning lesbian rights, ensuring economic justice, ending sex discrimination, and achieving constitutional equality for women.
  • Hannah Rosenthal, the Obama administration’s Special Envoy to Monitor and Combat Anti-Semitism, will be receiving the Faith and Humanity Award.  Ms. Rosenthal has worked fiercely as an outspoken advocate against anti-Semitism and a tireless defender of human rights.

NCJW 2010 Israel Benefit Luncheon
June 10, 2010 — Harmonie Club, New York City
11:30am – 2pm

NCJW honored philanthropist, advocate, and dedicated volunteer: Jan Schneiderman, past NCJW national president (1999-2002).
The 2010 Israel Benefit Luncheon also celebrated NCJW’s pioneering Israel Program and the continuing partnership of NCJW and US/Israel Women to Women (W2W). Together, we are creating progressive social change in the lives of Israel’s women, children, and families.

International Council of Jewish Women’s (ICJW)
Quadrennial Convention
May 8-11, 2010 — Cape Town, South Africa

At this event, NCJW members had the unprecedented opportunity to step beyond the borders of NCJW and into the global world of NCJW-USA as an affiliate of the International Council of Jewish Women (ICJW). At ICJW’s Quadrennial Convention, Sharon Scott Gustafson – an NCJW leader – was installed as president. Attendees met fellow ICJW members from around the world, heard about ICJW’s important work, and participated in strategizing sessions about ICJW’s future endeavors.

ICJW was founded in 1912 by Hannah G. Solomon, in order to bring her vision of a significant organization for Jewish women to the international stage. Today, NCJW-USA remains the largest of ICJW’s affiliate members throughout the world.

Washington Institute 2010
March 21-23, 2010 – Omni Shoreham Hotel, Washington, DC

At NCJW’s premier public policy event, members from across the country joined together to enhance their knowledge of the issues and challenges facing our country and our world through in-depth briefings by political leaders and policy experts.  They heard the voices and stories of those directly impacted by the issues here in the US and in Israel, shared ideas and experiences and networked with like-minded individuals, and they spoke out to their members of Congress in face-to-face meetings on Capitol Hill.

  • Eve Ensler — Anti-Violence Against Women Champion 
  • Ambassador Melanne Verveer — Ambassador at Large for Global Women’s Issues

NCJW’s 2009 Mission to Israel

Turn beliefs into meaningful action…make your passion for Israel come alive. All NCJW members and families are invited to join our mission to Israel. 

You are sure to be inspired by NCJW’s contribution to Israel by visiting our Israel Granting Program sites and learning about NCJW’s impact on shaping Israel’s social fabric directly from our coalition partners.  Be privy to briefings from key players on Israel’s socio-political forefront and meet the women who are making a difference in Israel.  But most of all, warm the hearts of Israelis with your show of solidarity.

Emphasizing the current economic climate, the 2009 Leaders’ Retreat will bring together leaders from across the country and take an in-depth look into the most pressing issues affecting local NCJW communities.

Agenda highlights include:

  • Plenary on economic justice and how it relates to NCJW issues and advocacy
  • Ample time for leaders to brainstorm opportunities provided by these historic times
  • Website training including making the most of Internet tools with an introduction to a website template in development for section use
  • A breakout session on section governance
