“Sex, Power and Speaking Truth: Anita Hill 20 Years Later”![]()
October 15, 2011 — Hunter College in New York City
NCJW was a proud sponsor of this day-long conference that brought together three generations to witness, respond to, and analyze present day realities in law, politics, and the confluence of race, class, gender as well as current cases of sexual harassment. Anita Hill was the honoree and keynote speaker, and was joined by prominent scholars, attorneys, journalists, and activists speaking on panels throughout the day. The conference also featured “Speaking Truth to Power,” a performance curated by Eve Ensler. The performance included original works written by Edwidge Danticat, Asali Devan, Eve Ensler, Lisa Kron, Lynn Nottage, Mary Oliver, Kevin Powell, and Anita Hope Smith.
NCJW 2011 Israel Benefit Luncheon
June 21, 2011 – Central Park Boathouse, New York City
NCJW honored Florida State Senator, philanthropist, advocate, and dedicated volunteer: The Honorable Nan Rich, past NCJW national president (1996-1999). The event featured guest speaker Jane Eisner, Editor of the Forward. The Israel Benefit Luncheon celebrates NCJW’s pioneering Israel Program and the continuing partnership of NCJW and US/Israel Women to Women (W2W) to create progressive social change in the lives of Israel’s women, children, and families.

45th National Convention
March 3-5, 2011 – Fairmont Hotel, Dallas, Texas
Hundreds of women from around the country gathered to speak out and make their mark on the future of NCJW. By voting on resolutions that set the stage for the next triennium, delegates delivered their collective voice and took meaningful action on vital issues, including NCJW’s new campaign, Voices for Reproductive Choices. These powerful women continued NCJW history by installing a new slate of directors and officers, including new NCJW President Linda Slucker, in addition to welcoming new NCJW Chief Executive Officer Nancy K. Kaufman. Guest speakers included: House Democratic Minority Leader Rep. Nancy Pelosi (D-CA); filmmaker Alexandra Pelosi; Terry O’Neill, president of the National Organization for Women; Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz (D-FL); Kathy Miller, president of the Texas Freedom Network; and Hannah Rosenthal, US Special Envoy to Monitor and Combat Anti-Semitism.

Leaders’ Retreat

This year’s Leaders’ Retreat was designed to help NCJW leaders hone their leadership skills, effectively mobilize members, network with colleagues, and obtain the latest news about NCJW’s initiatives. The retreat highlighted NCJW’s commitment to organizational and professional development as a means to achieving its mission. The 2010 Leaders’ Retreat brought together leaders from across the country and took an in-depth look into the most pressing issues affecting local NCJW communities.

International Council of Jewish Women’s (ICJW)
Quadrennial Convention
May 8-11, 2010 — Cape Town, South Africa
At this event, NCJW members had the unprecedented opportunity to step beyond the borders of NCJW and into the global world of NCJW-USA as an affiliate of the International Council of Jewish Women (ICJW). At ICJW’s Quadrennial Convention, Sharon Scott Gustafson – an NCJW leader – was installed as president. Attendees met fellow ICJW members from around the world, heard about ICJW’s important work, and participated in strategizing sessions about ICJW’s future endeavors.
ICJW was founded in 1912 by Hannah G. Solomon, in order to bring her vision of a significant organization for Jewish women to the international stage. Today, NCJW-USA remains the largest of ICJW’s affiliate members throughout the world.

Washington Institute 2010
March 21-23, 2010 – Omni Shoreham Hotel, Washington, DC
At NCJW’s premier public policy event, members from across the country joined together to enhance their knowledge of the issues and challenges facing our country and our world through in-depth briefings by political leaders and policy experts. They heard the voices and stories of those directly impacted by the issues here in the US and in Israel, shared ideas and experiences and networked with like-minded individuals, and they spoke out to their members of Congress in face-to-face meetings on Capitol Hill.
